Evaluation of Anti-Aging Effect in Biochar-Modified Bitumen

Increasing environmental awareness has led to a great research effort towards the formulation of increasingly sustainable pavements, mainly by developing bituminous mixtures incorporating waste materials. Furthermore, some materials have been proved be useful for enhancing performance road bitumen and products, so their use is potential solution ensuring environmental, economic, also technical benefits. Amongst different wastes used modification, possible one that obtained via pyrolysis biomass, named biochar. In reported here, selected biochar was added verify possibility improving in terms photo-oxidation resistance, which major problem urban areas where black flexible pavements contribute heat island effect. Different amounts were selected, two aging methods performed: short-term UVB resistance; they monitored using rheological spectroscopic analysis. The structural changes carbonyl hydroxyl accumulation observed at various UV irradiation times. All experimental data indicate can positive effect on resistance bitumen, lowering its tendency. This may lead reductions natural, non-renewable materials, since intervention maintenance scheduled longer terms.
